Spirit of Humanity is a national level platform for collaboration, capacity building and recognition within the social sector in India. Spirit of Humanity Awards is an initiative by Americares India to recognize and reward the Best NGOs in varied impact sectors to identify and honor excellence by NGOs working for the underprivileged. The organizers of the award, supported by KPMG (process advisors and evaluators) and eminent jury members, follow a rigorous procedure for shortlisting the entries for the finals. This year, impact sectors included – Child care, Disability, Education, Health, Livelihood and Women empowerment. Its finale was held recently at J W Marriott Mumbai Sahar. The event witnessed 26 NGOs finalists from over 300 entries. The participating organizations went through three rigorous levels of shortlisting and the winners were announced in a grand award ceremony in the evening. The finale of the 7th edition brought together not-for-profit organizations, academia, government authorities, thought leaders and corporations for sustained engagement and cross learning.

We are glad to share that Sankalp India Foundation was adjudged by the distinguished and reputed jury as the best NGO in the country in the Child Care sector. Sankalp presented it’s work done on the thalassemia and BMT front. The jury indicated that the model of the BMT program ensures is proficient, cost effective, sustainable, scalable and most importantly extremely beneficial to patients. The jury team opined that this is the right model to tackle thalassemia - focus on both management and cure.

We are humbled by this recognition. This recognition is for the entire team that has worked tirelessly - the medical and nursing teams at our day care centres in IGI, Samraksha and KLE, the teams at our BMT units in PTH Bangalore and Mumbai, our financial donors and the little children along with their families. Lalith Parmar, President, Sankalp India Foundation says

"This award is a dedication to the novel concept of having BMT done with not for profit or affordable costs with no compromise on quality of treatment or nursing. Our outcome is on par with international BMT centres. This is something that most clinicians associated with transplants in the country doubted and our teams have shown them the way."
Infact it is a hat-trick of awards by Americares as in 2011 and 2014, our projects on Emergency, Rakta Kranti and thalassemia management were recognised.
