28 April 2016 , Bangalore

The Thalassemia Day Care Centre at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health celebrated the World Thalassemia Day on the 28th April 2016. The event saw enthusiastic participation of the patient families and the medical team alike.

The event was meticulously planned by the thalassemia team , in-spite of the summer rush and extremely busy schedules. The end result of weeks of planning culminated in a well organised function which the children are going to remember fondly for the year to come.

The event was an opportunity to raise awareness and educate the parents about proper management, prevention of disease, nutritional guidelines for thalassemia and the option of cure. The specialists in the hospital spoke on these topics and answered the questions that families had. At the same time, it was also a fun event with dance performances, quiz and cake cutting ceremony. The children in their elegant colorful dresses enthusiastically participated and had a good time.

The parents and the children also expressed their gratitude and acknowledged the care and support they receive at the institute.

"We congratulate the doctors, the nurses, the administration, the blood bank and the lab team at IGICH for working tirelessly to relieve the pain and suffering associated with thalassemia."

With several elements of care available under one roof, Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health has indeed brought relief and better life to a large number of children suffering from hemoglobinopathies. Sankalp India Foundation is committed to support the team in whichever way possible to ensure each child grows up to be a contributing member of society and lives a healthy normal life.
