Sankalp Celebrates 12th Anniversary

On 23rd May, 2015, Sankalp India Foundation celebrated the 12th Anniversary program at People’s Tree Hospitals, Yeshvantpur. Volunteers, Blood Donors, Doctors, Transfusion and Thalassemia experts, Sankalp Friends, Camp Organizers, Children suffering from Thalassemia and their families came together to celebrate the occasion. The program started with Lalith Parmar, President, Sankalp India Foundation sharing Sankalp’s work report for the past two years, thereby, taking us on a journey of what was planned versus what was accomplished by the organization. Sh. Jasmine Majithia from Pune and Sh. Rashmikant Shah from Mumbai were the special guests on the occasion. They attended the anniversary program after a day-long visit to the Thalassemia Centres managed by Sankalp at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health and Rashtrotthana Parishat, which collectively cater to over 400 children suffering from thalassemia providing them with free blood, medicines, facilities, check-ups and care. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Sh Jagmohan Maheshwari from Jai Shiv Shakti Health and Education Foundation - an organisation which has strengthened the work we do for thalassemia. Mrs. Majethia – who has been actively and passionately involved in the field of thalassemia for the past 27 years helping patients, parents and doctors get access to resources for treatment and eradication. She is also a strong advocate of thalassemia prevention and awareness. She shared with us jewels from her rich experience and eventful journey through the years working for the cause of Thalassemia. She expressed happiness and at she saw being done by Sankalp and promised to guide and support the organisation for curing children suffering from thalassemia. Sh. Rashmikant Shah who attended the program represented Parents Association Thalassemic Unit Trust (PATUT) - organisations committed to helping children suffering from Thalassemia undergo Bone Marrow Transplant. He was pleased to see young volunteers from Bangalore working for Thalassemia care and cure and offered his support towards the cause. Three thalassemic children from the day cares managed by Sankalp underwent successful Bone Marrow Transplant recently. One of the children’s father shared his experience on how seamless his son Yogananda’s transplant was, and thanked the donors and the organisation for helping his family. Dr. Sumithra from Rashtrotthana Blood Bank went down the memory lane and recalled the times when Sankalp volunteers had reflected the dire need for a Thalassemia Day Care and how the two organizations worked together to make it happen. She also shared the good news that soon Rashtrotthana Blood Bank will start voluntary platelet apheresis and will price single donor platelets (SDP) nominally. Tarun Paul, our friend from Deutsche Bank also shared his experience of organizing camps with Sankalp, and assured his organization’s continued support. Deutsche bank has been very encouraging of the activities being undertaken by the organisation. On the occasion, Sankalp shared its vision for the coming times and presented the audience with a roadmap on how the organization plans to accomplish it. The 12th anniversary was a meaningful get together for the Sankalp family to come and share dreams they have all been a part of. May it be the doctors, technicians, camp organizers, blood bank and day care staff, friends or family, each had a role to play and the anniversary became a reason to come together, introspect and formulate plans for the future. We would like to take this moment and thank everyone who has been a part of the journey to help make 12 years of Sankalp India Foundation possible.
