Smiling little Daiyyan’s journey to cure

There is a time, when in life some families face lot of difficulties, struggle a lot, and then, they came over of hard time. Daiyaan's family is a perfect example of this.

Ismail Bloch the father of thalassemia major patient who has struggled a lot to cure thalassemia and the suffering of his little son. The family came to know as their 3rd child is thalassemia major when Daiyyan was repeatedly getting high fever with low haemoglobin. After some tests, doctor in Vashi who was treating Daiyyan to get tested for thalassemia and the results came positive. Daiyyan was just 1 year of age then. The family was shocked and was worried about their child.

Daiyyan family belongs to very poor background. His father was doing job of salesman in a ladies shoe shop in Mumbra and the monthly income of the family was of Rs. 8000/- Daiyyan started regular taking blood transfusion and even with their limitations the parents tried to do the best for their child. They saw hope when the doctors told them about Sankalp India Foundation organising HLA typing free of cost for patients suffering from thalassemia. They were also told that if there is a match found, Daiyyan could potentially be cured. In March 2015, HLA typing was done and a few months later, the family got the good news that Daiyyan had a match with his elder sister Asthma.

Daiyyan came to Bangalore for the pre-transplantation workup. Around the same time Sankalp collaborated with Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai and started a program for thalassemia. The child was not in a great shape for transplantation. He was put through intense therapy for several months to control his serum ferritin levels and correct the organ damage as far as possible. In the mean time, Daiyyan's father organised for all the money that he could towards his transplantation. He shared that though it was a small fraction of the cost, that was the best he could do.

Thankfully, the donor organisations connected with Sankalp together with CM's fund help bridge the gap and the financials were arranged. Daiyyan got admitted on 7th September 2016 for his transplant. The transplant happened on 26th September 2016 uneventfully.

After the transplant, the next few days are critical and the medical team was armed to handle any difficulties which could arise. Thankfully, there was nothing significant.

Daiyyan got discharged on 25th October 2016. After the discharge family has arranged small flat to stay in the Mumbra taken on rent for some month so that they can keep it clean and hygienic and infection free enough as per the requirement. In the subsequent visits, he is showing good progress. The family is overjoyed, so are we. Congratulations to everyone involved. May cure come to more families.
