On 13th September 2014, Disha the blood help-line will be celebrating the 8th year of continuous service. Since the launch on the evening of 13th September 2006 at the Raj Bhawan by the then governor of Karnatataka Sh. T N Chaturvedi, the help-line has grown into a reliable, single window access to blood for all parts of Karnataka.
The news of a child being born with thalassemia devastates the family. More grueling is the struggle to find the way ahead for disease management. Each family was forced to wage their own battle and find their way through. The situation is most difficult for the poor and the illiterate parents.
On World Blood Donor’s Day, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, Bangalore Medical College felicitated Sankalp India Foundation for organizing regular voluntary blood donation drives . We have committed to the department on behalf of all the voluntary blood donors that there will be no shortage of blood.
We at Sankalp India Foundation get numerous blood requests. We are uniquely positioned in a sense that we tend to get the more difficult to manage blood requests - rare blood groups, difficult situations, timings, lesser known components etc. Over the years as the number of requests has increased, the good news is that we find it easier to handle the most difficult of situations.

The Thalassemia International Federation(T.I.F.) in association with Federation of India Thalassemiacs(F.I.T.) organised a workshop on 17-18 December 2013 in New Delhi. The workshop was aimed at capacity building the patients/parents support groups and help the groups in India formulate a clear strategy towards improving and supporting national and state efforts for better control of thalassaemia. Representatives of 7 states namely Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra attended the workshop.
Bombaybloodgroup.org has been bustling with activity in the last few months. It is the platform for the vibrant Bombay blood group community of our nation. Through rational use of blood, technology, networking and most importantly, timely and judicious blood donations, the community has been actively managing the numerous blood requests which it is getting from all over the globe.
