Our Nation Needs Us: Message from Sankalp on 67th Independence Day

Submitted by sankalp on

Nothing comes for free. Never. Someone needs to pay the price. Independence of our nation does not imply that this nation will transform by itself. Someone, somewhere will have to desire, strive for and achieve every little step in the direction for betterment of this nation. The sentiment is high in media and on social networks. The opinions are getting more articulated in the educated section of the society. But let it be known and well understood that no amount of opinion and wish-list counts. What counts is the conversion of thoughts into actions. While it is true that a large section of the society feels let down, while it is true that negativity is taking its toll on our never, the fact of the matter remains - we are still the thinkers - not the doers!

We urge you to 'stop thinking and start working'. The man who dies on the border dies for this land and its people. The men who fought against the British died to secure our freedom. Don't just put their photos in frames. Don't just share their memories on Facebook. Be one with them What makes you or me one with them? We don't have guns to kill enemies. We don't have an external oppressor to fight against. But remember people, a nation which does not secure for its people justice, well being and dignity cannot claim to be fully free. You might be an engineer, a doctor, a lawyer, a housewife, a businessman, a student, a retired person or anyone else .. If you are not doing your bit for this nation with all your vigour and strength, you are like the lame soldier who sits in the camp and advices other soldiers on how to fight.

Look around you. Look within you. There are so many hearts which beat for this nation. There are so many eyes which seek happiness of their brethren. You do feel bad when you read something negative about this country. Your heart cries out when this nation is called names and people of this nation suffer. It is painful to see all the feelings and emotions being wasted away in accusing and badmouthing the politicians, the administrators, and whoever else we can target. We just find safe enough avenues to vent our anger and shake our heads in shame. We watch our house burn in flames and keep begging others to do something about it. We keep trying to find out who set the fire. We keep trying to figure out who should act. and all this while - the house burns! Pick up the bucket people. Find water and throw. There is just one way. The way ahead. Do something, however small it is to make this nation a better place. Have the intent first. Break free from the vicious cycle of blaming and escaping responsibility. Take charge - do something!

Let us all be soldiers for our nation. Our motherland is in trouble. We are being divided. We are being looted. We are being kept away from the true freedom which was envisioned for each of our people. The intent is not to dictate what is right and what is not. The people against our well being as a nation - those who place selfish personal agenda ahead of that of the nation  - burn the midnight oil to find ways to accomplish their goal. It is not soldiers on the border who can defeat their selfish and anti-national motives. Let every heart that beats for the cause of this nation, put the mind and the hand at work. Let us burn the midnight oil to do what is right. They hit our national interest. Let us not hope for a transformation of their heart. Let us bring about a self transformation.

This is our nation. Look around you and see your own people. For once do give a thought to the fact that we are Indians. We are at war with the problems that we face within our own self. Think people. Think! We have a responsibility. We are the ones who were trusted to be competent to share the future of our own people.

A few years down the line the history books will have a chapter about those who gave their everything for freedom. Then there will be a chapter about those who had got an opportunity to make the best of the freedom which was secured. We will be a chapter in the history. Either we will be remembered as people who stood and watched their nation burn, or we will be remembered as people who shaped the true meaning of freedom for our nation. It is our day! Our opportunity! Do something!

Nothing comes for free. Everything we have today has been well paid for in blood, sweat and tears. Are we willing to pay for our dreams? Are we willing to work for the cause of our nation?

On this independence day let us resolve to DO SOMETHING for our nation!
