India Launches a New Lab for HIV Research

On 13th August 2012, India opened a $12 million, government-backed laboratory whose mission is to create a new vaccine against HIV. The HIV Vaccine Translational Research Laboratory, which aims to recruit about 30 scientists, is embedded within the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, a $200 million facility under development on the outskirts of New Delhi. It will work in collaboration with the New York based-International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI); operating costs will be shared equally.

New Algorithms May Control Unwanted Transfusions

There has always been a debate if there is an overuse of blood products. The resulting overuse of blood is problematic, and may do worse, if given transfusions prematurely or unnecessarily.On the other hand, it has also been experienced that in patients who undergo major surgeries, specially cardiac surgery, severe perioperative bleeding is seen.

He had the dream of making the country self-sustained in milk production. He had a dream of improving the life of hundreds of thousands of marginalized dairy farmers in the country. He had a dream of making a co-operative so powerful that even corporates can’t compete with it. He was the Milkman of India. He was Dr Verghese Kurien.

21 Sikhs of Saragarhi

Man is capable of achieving so much. A few good men have always been able to do things which are beyond imagination for most. With a firm belief in themselves, men create history. One such rare tale is the battle of Saragarhi when an army of 21 Sikh soldiers, in a lonely communications post, made a gallant stand against an enemy 10,000 strong. Fighting to the last man, they created the lasting legacy of human bravery and valour on the battlefield.

2 Years @ Sankalp

I came to Bangalore on 30th July 2010, looking for a job and got placed the very next day. However, I didn’t get joining immediately. This left me with ample time to work for a cause. As I was new to Bangalore, I didn’t know of any organizations. So, I searched Google for volunteering opportunities and filled up forms for at least 10 organizations! To be frank, Sankalp was my last preference as I always believe in the cause of education and Sankalp works for cause of blood.
