Independence Day 2010

Volunteers of Sankalp Indian Foundation celebrated the 63rd independence Day. The program started with the singing of the National Anthem. What followed was a rich discussion in which volunteers shared the ways in which they celebrated the festival of independence when they were young. Then we had a discussion on the relevance of patriotism and the role that individuals like us can play to be truly deserving the independence that we have got.

Disaster Preparedness is an absolutely important part of Sankalp volunteer's life. Yet since last couple of months we were not able to schedule meetings to keeay by organising a Disaster Training session.p ourselves updated. The need was immense and the occasion was befitting - Sankalp celebrated Independence D

12 volunteers attended the discussion that was roughly 5 hours long. The agenda was to implement the learnings from previous session in order to plan a mock disaster relief session. The context came from Leh Flash Floods. There were extensive debates on the planning and management aspects. Volunteers drilled down the facts that were available and applied the conceptual understanding they had built in earlier sessions to come up with an effective plan. This was done for various aspects of planning by smaller teams and eventually we got together to make presentations to one another and have discussions.

Such exercises are greatly instrumental in keeping the knowledge updated, preparing people to react better and learn better methods of getting things done and improve the overall disaster preparedness. They also help us isolate the week links of our plans so that we can fix them before it is too late.
