Emergency wing was the first team of SIF which started with the pledge to do whatever it takes to ensure no one suffers due to shortage of blood. Today the team takes up blood requests which are difficult to be handled by the existing blood stocks in blood banks or by simply getting a few donation done. The team takes up blood requests for extremely rare blood group, when there is a requirement of unusual blood products, when there is a danger to the life of the person because of lack of availability of blood and other corner cases of blood banking.
The 10th anniversary of Sankalp India Foundation presented the organisation with the opportunity to review the work done through the past years and formulate the strategy for the decade to come. The pedagogic approach taken through the years to unveil the intricacies of the tasks we took at hand and to build strong solutions presented the organisation led to the challenge to scale up the work and reach out further in the pursuit of the goals. It took only a few weeks of intense discussions, planning and strategizing and the teams were back to work.
The Rakta Kranti team of Sankalp looks to organize safe and high quality blood donation drives all through the year. Back in March 2007, when this was started the aim was to create a movement to push Karnataka towards 100% voluntary blood donation. Here we bring to you what direction was taken up by Sankalp in the last 1 year for Rakta Kranti.
Sankalp India Foundation has been running the state-wide helpline for blood since 2006. Any person looking for blood in Karnataka needs to call just a single number 9480044444 to get the blood availability information in the city. On enquiring the person is provided the blood bank's name, number of units available, the address and the contact number.
From definition to identification to prevention, the Sankalp Patrika, in the last 3 months has carried some extremely important articles describing aspects related to adverse donor reactions. Although all our efforts must be focussed on providing the right ambience for blood donation, there are situations when one or more adverse events do occur.
