Giving Life a Better Chance – Since 2003
Sankalp India Foundation is a youth-led nonprofit committed to creating a healthier, more equitable India. What began as a student initiative to tackle blood shortages on 23rd May 2003 in Bangalore has grown into a nationwide movement that is transforming how India approaches blood donation, thalassemia and sickle cell care, and prevention.
Rooted in compassion, powered by innovation, and driven by the belief that no life should be lost to preventable causes, Sankalp stands today as a beacon of hope for thousands of families across the country.
Who We Are
We are a team of passionate professionals, volunteers, and changemakers working together for systemic change. Our approach is grounded in evidence, excellence, and empathy.
At Sankalp, we believe that real change comes from action, not just intention. Whether it is ensuring no child misses a transfusion, building pathways to cure, or preventing new cases of genetic blood disorders, we do what it takes every single day.
What We Do
Voluntary Blood Donation
We work to eliminate blood shortages across India. Through a strong network of camps, partnerships, and quality systems, we ensure timely, safe, and voluntary blood access so that no patient is left waiting in crisis.
Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Management
At 24 centres in 6 states, over 2,400 children receive high-quality, lifelong care including blood transfusions, chelation therapy, diagnostics, and counselling. We standardise care so that every child, regardless of geography, gets the support they deserve.
Curative Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Programme
With over 800 bone marrow transplants completed, our Cure Program gives children with thalassemia and sickle cell disease the chance to live transfusion-free. We offer safe, effective, and affordable BMTs through our dedicated transplant units in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.
Prevention of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease
We believe prevention is the ultimate cure. Through our Prevention Program by conducting large-scale carrier screening, antenatal testing, genetic counselling, and community awareness, we work to prevent new births affected by thalassemia and sickle cell disease. Over 1.9 lakh pregnant women have already been screened, and 200+ affected births have been prevented.
Our Mission
To ensure every child with thalassemia or sickle cell disease receives the care and cure they need, and to prevent the birth of new cases through early screening, counselling, and education.
Our Vision
We envision a nation where
- No child suffers due to lack of blood or care
- Thalassemia and sickle cell disease are eradicated
- Young people lead the charge for health equity, compassion, and national resilience
Sankalp is not just an organisation. It is a growing movement of people who believe in giving life a better chance.
Our Impact So Far
- 2,400+ children receiving monthly care in 24 day care centres across 6 states
- 800+ curative bone marrow transplants completed
- 1.9 lakh+ pregnant women screened, 200+ affected births prevented
- 2,350+ voluntary blood donation drives organised, over 1.66 lakh units of blood collected
Behind every number is a child’s smile, a parent’s relief, and a future reclaimed. This is why we do what we do.
Our Driving Force
At the heart of Sankalp is a simple but powerful belief: every life is worth fighting for.
What drives us is not charity, but commitment. It is the urgency to act when a child waits for blood, the resolve to cure when a future hangs in balance, and the determination to prevent pain before it begins.
We are fuelled by the unwavering hope of families, the courage of our children, and the will to build a country where no one is left behind because of where they are born or what they can afford.
This is the force that keeps us moving forward, every single day.

Thank you
Thank you Mr. Rajagopal for your wishes and compliments. All of us from Sankalp wish you success in all your future endeavors.
Dear all at Sankalp
Hearty congratulations on the Jury's choice award from Americares. I had made a presentation myself on behalf of Pallium India. I would have preferred to win the award for Pallium India, but am happy that we lost to such a worthy competitor.
I am writing this just to tell you how much I admire the wonderful work that you do. Before I came into Palliative Care, I worked as an anesthesiologist and in that role a not-infrequent heart-breaking experience used to be having to watch helplessly as people died in front of you just because blood did not become available at the right time. Your essential humanity is very very inspiring and I fold my hands to you.
And the presentation was simply wonderful!
