Advancing Cure Pathways through BMT Counselling in Jodhpur

Sankalp India Foundation recently conducted a two-day programme in Jodhpur focused on strengthening pathways to cure and improving awareness around thalassemia management. The initiative brought together patients, families, volunteers, and clinicians to combine clinical consultations with community awareness and donor identification.

On Saturday, an outpatient consultation session was held for families whose HLA typing had been completed in October 2025. More than 73 patients and their families attended the OPD with guidance from Dr Vaibhav, where they received detailed counselling on transplant eligibility, donor matching, and the steps involved in preparing for a bone marrow transplant.

The outcomes of the consultations were encouraging. Among the patients assessed, 23 were identified as full matches for bone marrow transplantation. Following counselling and discussions with the clinical team, 21 families expressed readiness to proceed with the transplant process. In addition, 20 families showed interest in exploring haploidentical transplant options, expanding potential cure pathways for children who may not have a fully matched donor.

The programme continued on Sunday with an HLA Camp, Thalassemia Management Awareness session, and an OPD interaction for volunteers led by Dr Vaibhav. During the camp, HLA samples were collected from 36 families, an important step in identifying compatible donors and expanding transplant possibilities for affected children.

Sankalp India Foundation remains grateful to Mr Nemichand, Mr Ashish Vadera, and the dedicated thalassemia warriors from the Marwar Thalassemia Society, Jodhpur, for organising and supporting this two-day effort. Their continued commitment helps bring specialised care, awareness, and hope closer to families living with thalassemia.
