For Their Youngest, a Different Future

Mohan, a labourer, and Deepa have three daughters to hold close and one they can only remember. Their third daughter’s reports revealed thalassemia only after her death. She had gone undiagnosed and untreated.

When their youngest, Leena, was diagnosed at three months, they feared losing another child. Transfusions every fifteen days followed. Mohan remembers worrying about what would happen to her. “I used to cry a lot,” Deepa recalls.

Sankalp brought them care, guidance and a chance of cure. Leena underwent her bone marrow transplant on 7 May 2026. Today, she is cured.

No family should learn about thalassemia through loss. Prevention, screening and counselling must reach parents early; affected children need timely diagnosis and care.

For Mohan and Deepa, hearing Leena talk about school means they can look beyond her next hospital visit and towards her future.
