2025 was a landmark year for Sankalp India Foundation, a year when compassion became a measurable impact and every new milestone brought India closer to freedom from thalassemia and sickle cell disease. Across its core programs of Prevention, Management, and Cure, Sankalp continued to blend science, service, and empathy to reach more children and families than ever before.

Beginning the Year with Purpose
The year began with renewed energy and clear goals. January saw strong achievements from the year before:

  • 2,400+ children supported every month across 23 day care centers.
  • 50,000+ transfusions.
  • 15148 units of blood collected.
  • 213 Bone Marrow Transplants completed.
  • 3,500+ individuals HLA typed to identify potential donor matches.
  • 66199 screenings and 97 affected births prevented in 2025.

These results set the tone for a year focused on growth and scale. Sankalp strengthened its clinical research, improved training for care teams, and expanded its footprint across states while keeping its focus on providing care that is ethical, timely, and affordable.

Stronger Systems, Safer Care
In February, Sankalp installed a state-of-the-art blood irradiator at the Blood Centre in Bengaluru, a significant step in improving transfusion safety for patients receiving bone marrow transplants. This innovation increased both the quality and safety of the treatments provided.

At the same time, Sankalp improved thalassemia management systems in Anantapur, reducing the time families spent at the centre from three days to just one. By simplifying hospital workflows, the team ensured that children received blood transfusions and lab results on time. Each change was rooted in compassion and a drive for excellence in care delivery.

A New Dawn in Cure
March brought one of the biggest developments of the year with the expansion of the Health1 Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Ahmedabad. With bed capacity doubled, the centre can now provide life-saving bone marrow transplants to over a hundred children each year.

During this period, the Prevention Program also reached a major milestone. 150,000 families were enrolled in antenatal screening across multiple states. Faster in-house testing reduced result times from 14 days to just three, giving families timely access to critical information and paving the way for early intervention.

Building Knowledge and Skills
April marked the official launch of SHeAL – the Sankalp Hemoglobinopathy Academy of Learning, the first dedicated academy of its kind to train professionals in the field of prevention and care for genetic blood disorders. The initial four-day orientation for Prevention Centre Coordinators combined classroom learning with practical exposure to patient counselling and sample collection.

This month also celebrated the women of Sankalp. Out of 277 team members, 165 were women, serving as counsellors, nurses, doctors, and leaders. Their dedication, compassion, and strength embody the organization’s spirit and purpose.

Partnerships That Strengthen Impact
As the summer unfolded, May and June showcased what collective effort can achieve. From World Thalassemia Day events across 24 centres to the 22nd Anniversary of Sankalp India Foundation, every celebration honored determination and progress.

The Foundation marked over 800 bone marrow transplants, 1.9 lakh screenings, and 180 births prevented, evidence that early detection, continuous management, and compassionate treatment together change lives. Collaborations with companies like Collins Aerospace, Huron, and Emerson also strengthened community engagement through blood donation drives and meaningful volunteer engagement with children and families.

Redefining What’s Possible
By mid-year, Sankalp’s prevention initiative had prevented 201 affected births since its inception. This progress further validated the effectiveness of its counselling-based screening model. The Government of India recognized Sankalp as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO), a milestone that aligned the foundation’s programs more formally with research-led and evidence-based healthcare. Each project reflected Sankalp’s growing national presence and credibility.

Recognition and Renewal
September and October combined recognition with renewed drive for excellence. Sankalp was felicitated by the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Chapter of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics for its contributions to thalassemia cure and public health.

The Sankalp Blood Centre also achieved a major record, collecting 25,000 voluntary units in 25 months, each donation coming from an individual choosing to give life without expectation of return. This achievement illustrated how awareness and trust can transform communities and sustain a life-saving service.

Celebration, Reflection, and Growth
As the year drew to a close, November and December were months of gratitude and forward-looking collaboration. Sankalp completed over 100 bone marrow transplants during the financial year, inaugurated a new day care centre at JIPMER Puducherry, and partnered with Western Coalfields Limited to launch Project SUSHRUTA 2.0 in Maharashtra. The project made antenatal screening for thalassemia and sickle cell part of the public health system in Chandrapur, Nagpur, and Gadchiroli.

The Karnataka Government recognized the Sankalp Blood Centre as one of the highest voluntary blood collection facilities in the state. Across every unit, clinic, and camp, dedication and teamwork continued to define Sankalp’s difference.

Looking Ahead
Each milestone achieved in 2025 carried the effort of thousands of hands and hearts. Donors, coordinators, doctors, counsellors, parents, partners, and volunteers together built a network of care that put human dignity at the centre of public health.

As 2026 begins, Sankalp moves forward with gratitude and a clear goal: to reach more families, prevent more births affected by genetic blood disorders, cure more children through accessible transplants, and strengthen voluntary blood donation networks across India.

The journey continues with faith and focus, standing firm on the belief that every child deserves a healthy, happy, and fearless life.
