Sankalp India Foundation is excited to announce the successful installation of a state-of-the-art blood irradiator at our facility, marking a significant advancement in the safety and effectiveness of bone marrow transplants (BMT). This essential piece of equipment will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of care for our patients undergoing transplants by irradiating blood products before they are used in treatment.
A blood irradiator uses special light, known as radiation, to treat blood before it is transfused into patients. For individuals undergoing bone marrow transplants, their immune system is often compromised, making them highly susceptible to infections and other complications caused by harmful cells that may be present in donated blood. By irradiating the blood, these harmful cells are safely destroyed, ensuring the transfused blood is safe for the patient. This process is crucial for preventing the body from rejecting the transplant and reducing the risk of infection, contributing to a smoother recovery.
The installation of this blood irradiator was carried out with careful planning and coordination, including securing the necessary approvals from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), in full compliance with national safety regulations. Sankalp’s team worked alongside trusted suppliers to ensure the equipment meets both national and international standards, with staff undergoing extensive training to operate it safely.
In addition to benefiting our own patients, Sankalp is proud to make this new facility available to other hospitals in Bangalore that require irradiated blood components. This will enable us to support more patients in need, extending our services beyond our immediate patient base and helping to improve the quality of care across the city.
This addition reinforces Sankalp’s commitment to providing comprehensive, life-saving care to children and families in need. By enhancing our capabilities with the blood irradiator, we are one step closer to offering a transfusion-free life to those battling serious conditions.
We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our partners, medical community, and donors, whose contributions have made this advancement possible. With the new blood irradiator, Sankalp is better equipped than ever to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients and the wider community.
