Manjunath NR: From Struggle to Strength

At Sankalp India Foundation, we often meet young people whose courage inspires us every single day. One such story is that of Manjunath NR, a 24-year-old thalassemia warrior whose life reminds us why we do what we do.

Manjunath was diagnosed with thalassemia at birth. For years, he endured transfusions every 15 days, struggling with dangerously low haemoglobin levels that once dropped as low as 6.2. Without proper guidance on thalassemia management, his childhood was filled with side effects like high fever, weakness, and constant uncertainty about the future.

A Turning Point with Sankalp

When we first met Manjunath at Belgaum Hospital, his journey took a new direction. Our team worked closely with him to change the way he approached his health:

  • Education & Awareness: We equipped him with knowledge about thalassemia—how regular transfusions, iron chelation, and disciplined health care could transform his life.

  • Better Quality of Life: His haemoglobin levels now remain steady at 11–12, his transfusions are smoother, and side effects have reduced significantly. With renewed energy, he is able to live actively and confidently.

  • Empowerment: Once fearful of limitations, today Manjunath teaches part-time, enjoys sports, and pursues his passions. He has discovered that thalassemia does not define who he is or what he can achieve.

Strength Through Challenges

Manjunath still faces challenges—he avoids heavy physical work and certain career paths with strict medical criteria remain out of reach. Yet, he approaches these hurdles with remarkable strength. By staying committed to regular transfusions, taking his medication on time, and leaning on the care provided at our thalassemia day care, he continues to thrive.

A Message of Gratitude

Hearing his words moves us deeply: “Sankalp India Foundation didn’t just save my life—they gave me a new beginning. Their staff taught me to fight, hope, and thrive. Today, I live as normally as anyone, thanks to their compassion and expertise.”

For us, Manjunath’s journey is not just about overcoming illness—it is about rewriting the story of what is possible with the right care and support. His courage is a beacon of hope for countless others living with thalassemia.

To every warrior out there, his story carries this message: “Keep going. With the right support, you can soar.”
