Sankalp India Foundation together with KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College start a thalassemia day care centre in Belgaum

Sankalp Program for Thalassemia Management took a leap forward on 5th May 2016 with the inauguration of the 'Jai Shivshakti Center for Thalassemia Management' at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum. The centre was inaugurated by Dr Lawrence Faulkner, who has been our guide, strength and inspiration.

From transfusions to transplant - how a five-year-old girl defeated Thalassemia

Rupavathi is a little more than five years old. She lived with her family in a small village near Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu. Her father worked as a coolie who helped in mason work locally. Her mother was a house wife. Rupavathi was diagnosed with thalassemia when she was one year old. The local doctor referred her to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health in Bengaluru. Starting from 2011, Rupavathi was continuously receiving blood transfusion there for free. "The doctors there were nice. Sankalp volunteers helped me a lot.

Bombay blood group donor’s meet

On 10th January 2016 we had the 5th Bombay blood group donor meet - the get together of the every special people who have the Bombay blood group. The meeting provides a unique opportunity for people with this rare blood group to come together and deliberate upon issues related to the donation, requests and management of Bombay blood group. The regular donors are happy to see each other and the volunteers who they interact with telephonically. It also enables the new members of the community to feel greater comfort in company of many people who share their blood group.

Back to the Team Red trainings - a volunteer’s experience

Recently, I was given the opportunity to do what I love the most to organise a Team Red training for students who were planning a blood donation camp in their campus at J.S.S.K.H. Kabbur Institute Of Engineering, Dharwad . Team Red is a team of volunteers who shoulder the responsibility to being in awareness and education in their campus and assist in the smooth execution of a blood donation drive.

A Step Towards Safer Blood Donation Drives

It is said that if you stop learning, you stop creating history and become history. At Sankalp a practice of striving to improve continuously is imbibed in all volunteers. Hence training and knowledge sharing sessions form an important aspect of projects. In the last 2 financial years, Sankalp has organized 300+ blood donation drives. In this financial year more than 70 have been organized in 4 months’ time. We have blood bank teams from 7 institutions coming in for drives, close to 200 staff including technicians, doctors, volunteers manage the show.
