Emergency Wing:
There were 8 blood requests in the previous week. Because of good stocks in the city, known through CTC Disha, most of the blood requests were fulfilled by calling either 1062 or other blood banks in the city. Out of these requests, one of them was for single donor platelets Apheresis and other for Bombay group.
Independence Day:
On Independence Day, the volunteers went to various schools and spread the message of respecting our National Flag, that is they should not be thrown down and stamped upon. Also, there was a programme especially for the volunteers to express their feelings for their Motherland. Read more about it here.
Rakta Kranti: Schools: The young and inquisitive minds are open to knowledge. And our volunteers have prepared themselves to educate the children about the importance of voluntary blood donation. The Principals were approached, the permissions were obtained and the effort which were taken were put to test for the first time with the Blood Awareness Week starting off in M.S. Ramaiah School on Monday (04/08/08). The other school to follow this week will be Chinmaya Vidyalaya where the Blood Awareness Week will start on Thursday (07/08/08).
Kargil Vijay Diwas:
Every year, since 1999, 26th July is celebrated in India as Kargil Vijay Diwas. This is the day that India won the Kargil war in 1999 with the loss of 550 soldiers. To remember those brave Martyrs, Sankalp organized a Blood Donation Drive on this day and paid tribute to them. The Heroes were remembered, patriotic songs were sung and the events of the War were discussed. The site home page also contains a link where people can visit the page which displays the Martyrs and light candle to pay a tribute to these brave Heroes.
World Blood Donor’s day:
June 14 is celebrated as World Blood Donor’s day. On this day Sankalp decided to send out a thank you mails to all its donors. There was a felicitation of blood donors and volunteers attended the function and thanked the donors on that day. Also Sankalp got 40,000 English and 4000 Kannada brochures, that is donors’ manual, printed. This was sponsored by BMTC.
BDO:
There have been 88 cases from May 1st to May 18th. And the donations made were around 18 during this period. The Karnataka wide blood search options information has been collected. Now, the volunteers are calling the listed places and collecting the other details and also trying to establish contacts with them in case of blood requests. The negative donor registration is also taking place and 3 donors (approximately) are being registered every week.
