5th Pillar is a non profit, non governmental organization aimed at fighting the evils of the Nation, corruption. The Nation already has four pillars of democracy – the legislature, executive, judiciary and the media. There is now one addition, 5th Pillar. 5th Pillar is a pillar of non political voluntary forces as well as voluntary members which fights corruption and helps the strengthen the first 4 pillars of democracy. 5th Pillar Objective "Mobilising the people Resource and making it 'Social Capital' through 5th Pillar and fight the evil of Nation, Corruption and strengthening the first four pillars of Democracy" and now one of its success story.

Sri Jayakumar of Tuticorin was in need of electricity connection for his newly constructed residence at Ittamozhi . He contacted Sri Sudalai a licensed electrician and an E B (Electricity Board) contractor who told that he would need to pay Rs. 1500/- towards additional pole to be erected. Sri Jayakumar paid the same on 11/2/2007. Despite repeated reminders no work was done till 22/02/2007 (the day after the intervention of 5th pillar). Sri. Jayakumar contacted Mr. Viswanathan, Member 5th pillar, INDIA (Triplicane) on the 21st of March who immediately took up the matter with E.B.,Ittamozhi and was willing to provide assistance to Mr.Jayakumar in filing a RTI application. The very next day Mr. Jayakumar got a call from Mr. Sudalai to inform that the work had been done and that he had paid for the meter from the amount already paid to him and that Sri. Jayakumar was not required to pay any further. Jayakumar was much relieved as he was saved from any further harassment and also payment of any additional sum. Sri. Jayakumar of Tuticorin has thanked 5th pillar for speedy assistance in his getting E.B. connection for his newly constructed residence @ Ittamozhi. Sri. Jayakumar has also thanked Podhigai channel for the program "EN SAGODHARI" through which he learnt about 5th pillar-RTI- as also the telephone number for contacting in need. now lets make an effort to know more abt this orgn..which is tryin to relive of country from its biggest plague ever..... write bac to know more...

It is very meet that the 5th pillar is an extremely innovative idea to curb this plague of corruption raging our land, but what eventually happens is that as the organisation grows and begins to exercise power it unknowingly slips to the arms of corruption itself, this is exactly what has happened to the other four pillars of the course of time. Anything that wields power, though non-profit and everything else..... will falter to corruption itself... So unless certain steps are taken to prevent corruption from within, nothing can be done from without. The defences are a very good example to this, though not completely free from this social stigma, the defences are usually well organised enough to protect itself from serious corruption problems, we could learn how they do it probably and then apply it to other organisations....
