Ensuring Donor Safety

Most important duty of all the Volunteers who organize a blood donation camp is to ensure donor's safety and well being. This process demands flawless attention, patience and good communication with every person involved. It is a role that involves focus and attention. Please ensure that all the safety checks are done and the process the blood bank is employing is flawless. In case there is a discrepancy, please report it to the Sankalp Volunteer In-charge.

Do

Start by doing what is necessary ,then what is possible, suddenly you find you are doing the impossible!!!

Ability

When God solves your problem, you have faith in His abilities;when God doesn't solve your problem,He has faith in your abilities.

Deeper Aspects

Motivational Aspects People are largely motivated to donate blood is they can clearly see the impact of their blood donation. You should be able to bring out the effort versus impact picture for the donor. Saying "donate blood and save a life" may be logically correct but it has no appeal. There is nothing in this line which brings out the impact more clearly. Tell them facts that show how difficult a situation it could be for a person who is looking for blood. And then show them how their blood donation reduces all the pain.

Bringing in Donors

Scope: This side of activity constitutes the work relating to motivating, convincing, education and finally bringing in blood donors to the blood donation camp. Challenging, and exciting on one side, but bearing a deeper responsibility of creating an aware society on the other site, this work requires real dedication. When you proceed to convince a person to donate blood there are two essential aspects: - Inspirations - Informative Most of the time the donor motivators only bank upon the first.

Role of a Volunteer

Volunteers have three primary roles:
  • Motivating and Bringing in Donors
  • Ensuring prompt donor's care and Safety
  • Assist the donation process
  • A Volunteer is the heart of a blood transfusion service. They are the people who must understand the entire process well to be able to contribute actively. Here is a segment wise analysis of the requirements. Your involvement will make all the difference.

    Working Methodology

The working of this arrangement requires frequent small blood donation camps to be held throughout the year. This means that the blood bank must get a very regular supply of Voluntarily donated blood. The following points will describe all working details
Donor Education A Blood Donor Manual will be provided to the college. Copies of it must be available to the blood donors to be read and returned.

M S R Blood Bank serves the blood requirement of about 200 different hospitals/clinics in North Bangalore. It is equipped with the best facilities for blood donation and transfusion and counts among the pioneering blood transfusion centers in the city. This blood bank runs on a totally replacement basis so far with very few Voluntary Blood Donors coming in to donate. Each person who receives blood from this blood bank is expected to replace it. This imposes serious limitations on the services offered by this blood bank.
