In 2013, one morning a few weeks after the new day care cent with Rashtrotthana Parishat started, a 24-year-old girl was brought into the day care supported by 2 people. She could not walk and her skin tone seemed abnormal - thanks to the heavy iron overload.

Sankalp India Foundation has been strategically planning the blood donation drives to meet the critical hour of blood shortages both in the summer and winter months, instead of clustering the blood donation camps on the days of national importance or when the city has enough stocks. The winters of this year, has also been very challenging, specially the last week of Dec and the first week of Jan'2019.
As part of the continuous learning initiatives adopted by Sankalp, a 2 day meeting for coordinators, nursing staff and doctors from the multiple thalassemia day care centres where Sankalp is involved was organized in Bangalore on the 23rd and 24th of January 2019
While voluntary blood donation camps are improving in terms of their adherence to national and global standards are concerned, a major area which continues to remain neglected is that of donor counselling. Most blood banks do not have a trained counsellor to attend the drives and even those who take up the responsibility lack the necessary focus and skill. We share in this article the ethical and legal considerations in blood donor counseling as indicated in the Implementation Guidelines for Blood donor Counselling by World Health Organisation.
On 19th February 2015 a group of people with very high interest in improving care and management for thalassemia came together in a room to explore the next steps for thalassemia management.
The intention was to share and to learn in an environment which maximizes learning and fosters cooperation.

In September 2018, we took our mission for "Thalassemia Free India" further by signing up the MoUs to replicate our model of comprehensive care and management for thalassemia in more regions.
The end of month of September was particularly busy for Team Sankalp as we geared up to offer HLA typing to about 200 families. Thanks to the support of Cure2Children Foundation - Italy and DKMS Germany, Sankalp has pioneered access to free HLA typing in a systematic and impactful way over last few years.
A new step forward has been made in our mission to ensure that children suffering from Thalassemia get proper care and management with the inauguration of the new Thalassemia Day Care Centre at RMM Global Hospital Trauma Centre at Abu Road in Rajasthan on 1st October 2018.
